Yeta'me stared out at the boggy lagoon. Her stomach plummeted. The painty, splotchy palomino coat flickered and twitched as she stretched out her near-useless wings. She had been trying, for a while, to get off the ground. The proof was the fact that her fur was slick with lagoon water up to her chest from the countless times she had merely plunged into the frigidly cold lake without getting airborne. She gritted her teeth, preparing herself mentally. She would touch the sky this time, she was sure. She backed up and took a running leap, trying to start her wings, pumping them forwards, backwards, up down up down up down...
The increasing pace of the clop clop clop, clop clop clop reached its peak and she fairly threw up off the rock which jutted out over the water. A paper thin layer of ice was just beginning to skim over the waves. Her wings rolled none too smoothly, up down forwards back up down... She repeated in her head the movement of her wings. Needles of pain began to flow from the base of the wings through her shivering chest, but she struggled to stay in the air. She was flying this time. Despite the fact that wind was now blowing through her soaked body, she felt warm and tingly inside. She was flying!
The patterned wings could only support her for so long. The wind caught her a little too strongly on one side and she was flipped over, creamy mane and tail lashing around in shock as she took a dive straight into the water upsidown. Her head surfaced, snorting water and churning towards shore. That was a painfully disgraceful landing, and besides that now she was completely soaked.
Life doesn't get any better than this, she huffed to herself, reaching the shore and throwing herself against the side to climb out. And throwing herself again. And again. The realization settled in... She was carrying the extra weight of the water, and she couldn't get any higher because her wings were now waterlogged. Undaunted, she tossed herself against the shore again and immediately sank into a mud pocket. Her wings were now out of water and she churned furiously. I'm having... So much fun! she snarled to whoever could hear it. I'll take this with pride! The pegasus who couldn't fly is lying in the mud, would the world like to come and see the amazing gypsy attraction? She stopped quickly. What if somebody really was nearby? What if they heard about the gypsies? She cursed herself for being careless about everything today. Joy to the world! Peace on earth! Yeta'me is so busy with her mud puddle that everybody else can have fun, fun, fun without her! Ha ha!
There was a loud sucking noise and one of her back legs disappeared completely. She stopped fighting the earth. This was pathetic... An Earth alliance pegasus who couldn't fly trapped in some mud. Why can't I use my powers? she thought angrily. Necromancy, fine. Talkng to plants... Eh... Fine. But actually using the Earth- there was another loud sucking noise. She whinnied nervously.
