Gone away, Gone ahead
Soara trod softly through the grass, dew shining on her hooves. The trees were silent, not even a bird to chitter it's light melody into the air. Silently the lady of sky slipped through the forest, wings flat against her neck.
Echoes roll, Die unanswered
She danced, ever silent, to the deep woods, where the sun only streamed in tiny, golden shafts through the canopy. Never stopping, she continued, as she did, looking around her for some sign of equine life.
Empty, open, Dusty, dead
As she came out into the open air, she crept to the mountainous edge of the plateau and looked out to the lands. Her eyes searched, but found no movement, and gaze turned once more to the plateau. Not a sound disturbed the morning silence, and as a breeze played with Soara's mane, that gaze only held sorrow. She turned and disappeared into the trees.
Why have all The skyfolk fled?

The soft beat of feathers against air were like distant wardrums. Great, pearly wings breached clouds as the moonwashed steed cut through them with ease. Adrenaline thundered through his veins, along with the hammering of his heart. He had not been to his dear home in many moons, and he feared for his love, Soara. Feathered limbs struck forward, great sinew clenching beneath plushy hide. A long, shimmering horn projected from the mighty steed's dial. It radiated a soft red, exposing emotion hidden deep within the steed. Pressure, worry and anger were what lay beneath. He surged forward, threading through the mountain peaks in which peirced the heavens. It would not be far now.
Would Soara forgive him? Smooth enamels gritted down upon lower labrum at the thought. Perhaps she would hate him for leaving her for so long. Ivory flutes flitted forward, brittle nares flaring as light cinnamon orbs cast an eager glance beneath him. Vibrant green hills were sprawled out before him, lush forests scattered across the hills. Crystalline rivers traced through the hills, and a few equines dotted the wonderful land. The lands of Eternal Earth, the lands of his enemies, however wondrous thier lands be. Beyond that lay the horizon, in which mountains reared from the lands. The most spectacular of them all was home.
He charged forward, simply a silvery blur streaking through the skies. Large talons beat the air as he raced forth, now only a few minutes away. He plummeted many feet through the chilled, thin air as he began to descend quickly.
He touched down at a large, snow coated feild. Toned appendages continued to sweep the land beneath him as he cantered a few more strides, beautifully crafted wings folding carefully at his sides as he stopped. Sculpted dial was perched high, his senses sharp as pins. Broad maw split open, a throaty bellow spilling from his angelic carverns. Hollowed pricks tipped forward, mohegan pools slashing a gaze across the horizon. There she was!
The mighty steed lunged into a thundering gallop, sharp rimmed talons thrashing the earth, held still in a frozen winter spell. Silver dipped ribbons whipped out behind him, thick plumage trailing behind him. He surged forward and before she dissapeared into the trees...
Soara!

Soara looked back, hearing her name called, only to see the Lord of Sky watching her. Her first reaction was releif at his safe return, but as she turned, gratitude soured slightly. Where had he gone off to, for so long? She trotted towards him, her face unreadable. Her mind was troubled as she approached, tail flicking to and fro. Finally she halted before him, looking up at him with a mixture of emotions. For the moment, she decided, she would remain cool. She knew nothing about the situation at hand, only that he had left, and to where she did not know. For a moment she felt betrayed that he would not tell her such a thing, but then chastisted herself for being such a hypocrite. There were certainly things that she had not yet told him...
For the moment, she stood, and paused before speaking. Greetings, my lord. she began, uncertainty wavering but her voice strong. She did not say anything else for the moment, the question unspoked, hovering between them
Where had he gone?

Soulful orbs watched her with remorse, pillowy maw twisting into a slight grimace. Too true, he had been absent for many moons. Doing what? Anything of importance? Perhaps. Pangs of guilt poked at him irritatingly, reminding him that a signifigant part of his expedition had been nothing but childish nonsense, romping among the hills and plunging through cool rivers. Diving into still, glassy lakes and chasing hawks. His gaze wandered for a moment, polished talons digging feverishly into the earth. A gentle breeze acknowleged the akward silence that braced itself between them for those moments. Whisps of milky tresses danced upon his strong boa as he forced himself to break the foolish silence, and speak.
My love, it was foolish of me to risk such an unfledged stage, and put our impressions on eachother at stake by leaving you. I shall not lie or conceal from you, so I shall tell you the pure truth. I left to spy upon the Earthen creatures, for the winds tell me war shall soon breach these peaceful lands. I must admit, I did waste chances I could come back to accompany you by slacking off, and enjoying myself. As a Lord I am entitled to such duties. I wish to keep my status - please forgive me this time, Soara, my lovely.
He said, the essence of pain within his soul souring his vocals. He stepped forward, rippled plumage flitting from side to side. His moist, deep ooids were sparked with the chance to be forgiven, curved prickettes tipped forward. He would give alot to have another chance, an opportunity to discard the memories and opinions of what had happened. He felt emotion burn, blistering in his cheeks. Would she?

An awkward silence, broken only by the gentle wisps of wind, settled on the earth between them. Soara was filled with as much anger as sadness, as much curiosity as dread when he finally spoke. Feathery ears not flat, but held tensely back, gaze sharp and unyeilding like never before.
It was plain to see that he was sorry. That she had never doubted -- but forgiveness was not something she took lightly, nor was trust. But what he said...
"I shall not lie or conceal from you"
Oh, how that hurt! She could feel her mind burn and squirm as he continued. How he trusted her... and yet the secret that she held from him still lay unspoken, festering in the farthest depths of her soul. He would not lie or conceal from her, and yet she could not tell him something so simple! Yes, her heritage was what some would call a private issue... but she could not even tell her own lord, though she had told so many others! Was she afraid that he would disapprove? Would he be frightened, or angry? She held back everything she wanted to say, neither her eyes nor her stance yeilding any of what burned her mind so.
Spy on the earthen creatures, eh? She thought the word with a certain stiffness, not altogether far from a burning defiance. She was all for uniting the elements, but it was easier for one of the sky to say that to fire or water than to earth. Just as fire and water were exact opposited, yin and yang, black and white, earth and sky were mortal enemies as well. And that one, midnight dancer, their lady... She bristled inwardly, remembering the ignorance, childishness and blind assumptions of that creature who called herself a pegasus. For some time, her thoughts were bitter, but soon enough she returned to the matter at hand.
So he'd had a good reason -- but that didn't explain everything. Why had he not told her? Why had he slipped away without at least a word of farewell? Did he think she would be scared? Angry? Did he think she would deman to accompany him, or be the sterotypical clingy mare and not let him go? And if she had come along, did he think her incompetent? Did he think that she would have slowed him down, or given him away while he spied? The possibilities flowed endlessly, but just before her anger built she cooled them. Give him the benefit of the doubt -- it was the least she could do.
Left to spy on the lands of the earth.... and ye didn't even let me know? She kept her voice soft, but there was a certain coldness in it that she couldn't keep out. She was on the verge of forgiving him, a combination of guilt for her secret and understanding for his predicament, but she wanted to be absolutely sure...
